What They Will Learn / Practice
These engaging (and super fun) matching cards will give your students loads of practice with:
matching upper and lower case letters
writing upper and lower case letters
tracing the name of the picture on each card (apple, ball, cat etc)
Preparing the Cards
Simply print on cardstock, cut along the dotted lines and the cards are ready to use in your classroom. For extra durability, the cards can be laminated.
Color and Black and White Versions
The Upper Case / Lower Case Letters Matching Cards are provided in two different versions: a color version and a black and white version. The colored version has been provided to make bright and engaging cards. The black and white version is provided as a more cost-effective way of printing the cards. The black and white cards look great when printed on bright color paper! Or, you might considering printing on white cardstock and adding color. In my experience, students love to be involved in this process.
Using the Cards
The upper and lower case letter cards are a great phonics center activity. Students can work individually or in small groups to match the letter cards and record their answers.
The cards can also be used as a whole class matching game. Hand out all the cards and ask students to roam the room and find the person with the matching upper or lower case letter. Students then record that letter and the activity can be repeated.
Teachers have reported that they have had students use the letter cards to play a memory / concentration game.
This resource is suitable for B&M classroom teachers and can easily be incorporated into online ESL lessons on platforms such as VIPKID, DadaABC, GoGoKid, SayABC, iTutorGroup and Whales English.
